Bread

Year 6 will be bread tasting on Thursday 11th May. 

We will be making our plain rolls on Tuesday 16th May and our Mediterranean inspired rolls on Monday 22nd May. 

Please make sure you have an apron and a bag/box to take your bread home in.  

Suggestions for ingredients your Mediterranean bread: 
- olives 
- tomatoes / sun-dried tomatoes, 
- rosemary 
- feta (or other cheeses) 
- red/green peppers
- onions and, 
- herbs 

These are just a few suggestions to help you.

Bread Recipe

 Ingredients

  • 500g strong white bread flour

  • 1.5 tsp salt

  • 25g butter

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp of yeast

  • 300ml warm water        

NB: YOU WILL NOT NEED TO USE ALL OF THE WATER!



 Instructions

1. Put the flour in a large bowl, add the butter and rub in with the fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

2. Add the sugar, salt and yeast.

3. Gradually mix in warm water to make a soft dough.

4. Knead well on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

5. Split the dough into half and then each person can make 6 rolls and place on a baking tray.Your extra ingredient should go into the mixture now too.

6. Cover loosely with lightly greased cling film and leave in a warm place for approximately an hour so that it can rise.
